Overview

TITLE: SENIOR COMMUNITY AMBASSADOR

REPORTS TO: PROGRAM DIRECTOR

LOCATION: 692 Blake Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11207

HOURS: 20 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: To work collectively with a selected school reflecting a high number of SCR calls within the East New York Community. In addition, the Ambassador will increase awareness of school staff ensuring that they are educated on primary prevention and other resources to reduce the need for child welfare involvement for Black and Latinx families. The Community Partnership along with local school and the support of ACS & DOE, will work together to create an approach that works with families that are vulnerable to poverty-related issues.

 

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with school staff and administrators.
  • Facilitate workshops that educate and increase awareness on SCR call determination.
  • Plan and oversee parent engagement activities and events.
  • Work collaboratively with the school as a "Referral Navigator”, assisting in connecting families to CP resources, creating workshops, and compiling new resources to support the families at risk and the school community at large.
  • Provide the school with community-based supports to children and families that do not require SCR calls.
  • Attend monthly CPP coalition meetings.
  • Attend and encourage family participation in CPP leadership meetings.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have High School Diploma or GED 
  • Solid organizational skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength based and/or youth development perspective
  • Must have active listening and organizational skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
