Candidates hired in this position will work in person but will have the flexibility to work remotely when program need allows.


Title:                   Program Director, COMPASS CS 300

Reports To:        Vice President, Education & Vocation - Afterschool

Location:            2050 Prospect Avenue, Bronx, New York 10460

Hours:                35 Hours/Week; Exempt


Job Summary: The Program Director is responsible for the overall development, implementation, and supervision of the COMPASS afterschool program at CS 300. They serve as the liaison to school staff and is responsible for carrying the culture and values of Good Shepherd Services. 


Major Duties:   

  • Creatively cultivate robust and varied range of after-school activities that students want to attend infused with fun and engaging rituals to keep students engaged.
  • Provide overall leadership and supervision for the COMPASS after school program.
  • Develop strong relationship with school administration, Principal, Vice Principal, Parent Coordinator and PTA Members
  • Responsible for program and staff scheduling.
  • Supervise assistant program director, group leaders, assistant group leaders, activity specialist, consultants, administrative staff and volunteers, complete timely performance evaluations.
  • Develop and facilitate weekly staff meetings.
  • Conduct supervision of line staff.
  • Conduct program outreach and coordinate enrollment and registration for all programs at the afterschool program.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of engaging, age-appropriate activities.
  • Ensure the safety and cleanliness of the site.
  • Supervise family involvement activities, as well as communication with parents regarding program expectations, child behavior and health and safety issues.
  • Provide daily crisis intervention with participants regarding personal and/or in-school issues that affect success in the program.
  • Ensure appropriate utilization of internal and external databases, including DYCD Connect database.
  • Complete required narrative and statistical reports in a timely manner.
  • Participate in appropriate school-based teams or committees, Safety Committee
  • Assume responsibility for partnerships with other community groups and stakeholders.
  • Partner with Good Shepherd programs within the school to maximize comprehensive services provided to students and families; create linkages between Good Shepherd staff and Department of Education (DOE) staff.
  • Monitor program budget and oversee implementation of Program Evaluation activities.
  • Work collaboratively with central office staff, providing information as needed in an efficient manner.
  • Ensure program’s compliance with Department of Health (DOH), DYCD and COA accreditation requirements.
  • Collaborate with community school director on school wide events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelors’ degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, or relevant field preferred
    • If no bachelor’s degree, must be enrolled and matriculated in a BA program or have an associate degree in education, child development, physical education, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in youth development programs and supervision. 
  • Must be able to engage in crisis intervention activities and demonstrate, lead and teach a range of group activities.   
  • Must be available for weekend training requirements. 
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.
