Overview

Title: COMMUNITY RELATIONS MANAGER (BRONX)

 

Reports to: VICE PRESIDENT OF GOVERNMENT AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS

 

Hours: Full-Time, 35 hours, Exempt

 

Job Summary: Good Shepherd Services is seeking a Community Relations Manager (Bronx) to join the Department of Government and Community Relations. The Government and Community Relations Department manages and implements an advocacy-driven strategy focused on issues that affect children and families living in New York City’s most under-resourced neighborhoods. The Community Relations Manager reports to the Vice President the Government and Community Relations and will work collaboratively with the Community Relations Manager (Brooklyn), Public and Advocacy Manager, and the Bronx Vice Presidents. 

The Manager will be responsible to contribute to the day-to-day operation of the identified program by: help develop and maintain a parent or advisory group; cultivating relationships with other community groups and stakeholders to collaborate around meeting community needs; and joining and/or creating a network of resources by serving on community district committees, attending local school meetings and events, and building relationships with local businesses and faith-based groups. The Community Relations Manager is focused on building connections using an engaging, and enthusiastic communication style to enhance Good Shepherds presence in communities it supports and to elevate participants and community voice.

 

Major Duties:              

  • Support program managers in the implementation of community outreach program initiatives, including providing event support, identifying community stakeholders to assist in planning and events, recruiting volunteers, and coordinating their participation. 
  • Coordinate communications activities, including updates to toolkits and internal resource materials and where appropriate, supporting social media and external communications efforts. 
  • Work closely with the Department of External Relations to capture stories of program events for internal and external use and the Grants Department to provide input on community partnerships for grant proposals.
  • Work closely with Community Engagement staff throughout the agency to build relationships with community stakeholders and ensure coordination of outreach to partners. 
  • Conduct outreach to the community to build strong relationships with residents, businesses, and community agencies providing services within the Good Shepherd Services program neighborhoods located in the Bronx. 
  • Represent the agency at all relevant community meetings (Community Board meetings, Precinct Community Council, and Tenant Association meetings) to develop partnership and organization linkages. 
  • Work in collaboration with the Vice President of Government and Community Relations on implementing the findings of the Strategic Implementation Team with a focus on the Advocacy and Community Relations direction of the agency’s strategic plan. 
  • Identify and maintain up-to-date information on key community issues and trends impacting children, youth, and families.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:  

  • High school diploma required with minimum of two years’ experience in community relations or community organizing in the Bronx.
  • Experience in building partnerships in the community, focused on promoting the visibility of organizations throughout the community and its stakeholders. 
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, creative and the initiative to solve or anticipate problems.
  • Experience working with youth and families on advocacy-related issues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • A passion for and commitment to mission-based work and social change, especially in the areas of children, youth, and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform effective community outreach and mobilize community efforts.
  • Ability to utilize various social media platforms.
  • Ability to travel is required.
  • Ability to work highly flexible schedule that includes late evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work comfortably in a fast-paced environment where colleagues are not co-located in the same office.
